This Is Paris

In the biggest game of the UEFA Champions League so far; the two biggest teams on the planet; Paris Saint-Germain & Manchester City; went head-to-head in this early group-stage battle; custom-made for pay-per-view TV.

And when the dust had settled; it was PSG that declared themselves the true Galacticos; the team to beat; with a performance that blended artistry with grit. They came out wanting to show the world that they are indeed the top team; and it showed on the pitch.

The front three of Lionel Messi; Neymar & Kylian Mbappe displayed good chemistry; with Mbappe providing the assist for the two goals for Idrissa Gueye & Messi. But it was the overall work ethic of the team that stood out in this one; best encapsulated in their marauding midfield trio of Marco Verratti; Ander Herrera & Gueye. Heck even Neymar was working hard; funneling down the left flank in pursuit of the rampaging Kyle Walker.

PSG did make a mistake in defending too narrow; and it afforded space time & again for City's wide men such as Jack Grealish & in particular Riyad Mahrez to threaten down the flanks. But on this day; it was impossible to beat Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament Gianluigi Donnaruma; who was in inspired form.
