Against The Ropes is a semi-fictionalized biography about famous boxing manager Jackie Kallen; the first woman in history to make a name as a boxing manager. In true underdog style; the story tells of how she grew up around boxing in her family; how she learnt her craft as an assistant manager; and finally makes it big in the most unreal of circumstances.
She only discovers her famous fighter by accident; after accidentally witnessing his pummeling of her original fighter; who is on a path to drugs and general self-destruction. Against all odds; she convinces the nobody to sign up to be a professional boxer; and even pulls an old legend out of retirement to coach him.
Before long; her eye for talent is proven right as her new fighter goes off the boil; winning match after match and eventually the upset championship. While largely panned by critics and being a box office bomb; this show does feature a young and hot Meg Ryan at her prime and engaging new actor Omar Epps.
