Touted as the next James Bond & The Bourne Identity; The Gray Man is Netflix's latest blockbuster and one of their biggest shows ever. It boasts an ensemble cast featuring Ryan Gosling; Chris Evans; Bond girl Ana de Armas, Rege Jean Page & Billy Bob Thornton.
It spans the globe; with locales as exotic as Bangkok & Prague; and sees the star man Gosling on a helter-skelter chase to escape the clutches of a rogue operative Chris Evans. Overall; the show does deliver in terms of action & witty one-liners; but it fails in terms of lack of identity and the pace is sometimes too fast for its own good.
Evans does brilliantly as the madcap villain Lloyd Hansen; with his moustache and buzzcut looking the part. Dhanush also features well in a cameo as a hired assassin; while Thornton does his level best as the good-guy mentor. This film may have designs to be the next James Bond franchise; and a sequel featuring Gosling is already in the works; but on this offering so far; it may have a tough job.
