Toffees Getting Sweet

I must admit it: at the start of the season it wasn't looking very good for Everton. We looked like the same shambolic state that barely avoided relegation last season; and it seemed every team wanted to play us (never a good sign).

But over the last few games: things have changed drastically. With Conor Coady & James Tarkowski now in central defence; we have a new-look backline that is looking more confident than anything we've seen in recent years. Add to that the form of inspiring youngster Nathan Patterson and we suddenly have a solid-looking defence.

In midfield; Idrissa Gueye has returned and not missed a beat. One of the pre-eminent defensive midfielders in the world; he has broken down many opposition attacks and given us that spine we never had. And upfront; the form of Demarai Gray recently has been nothing short of a revelation. And how about Alex Iwobi? The most improved player in history has found a home in midfield Joelinton-style; and his resurgence is symbolic of the upward turn Everton have taken under Frank Lampard.

And perhaps this new-found resilience is best exemplified in their gritty; come-from-behind win over Southampton at St. Mary's; previously called The Dell but never a favorite place for Everton to travel to. The Saints tried their best in the second half; but cue some wicked saves from Jordan Pickford; they never really looked likely to break down the Everton defence.
