Against the run of play; Liverpool had the temerity to actually take the lead early in the game; as some slack defending allowed Mohamed Salah to score unmolested after Diogo Jota had broken through the offside trap and was faced by Manuel Akanji one-on-one.
With the crowd baying for more though; City came back like true champions: conjuring wonderful team goals by Alvarez & Kevin de Bruyne to make Liverpool look old & slow again. Before the dust had settled; the impressive Ilkay Gundogan and the even more impressive Jack Grealish had scored further goals to make this a walkover by the 60th minute.
For Liverpool; it was another sad indictment of a miserable season. Just recently crowned the best team in the world; they are looking a disjointed side; gone is the energetic pressing and flowing passing that was the hallmark of their game. Now they are looking an incoherent machine; blaming each other more often than not and hindered by a slowing midfield of Jordan Henderson; Fabinho & Harvey Elliott. This was supposed to be the greatest rivalry in the world. It may not be anymore.
