Slam Dunk

Oh it seemed the unlikeliest of victories. Struggling Everton; with so much uncertainty hanging over the will-they-won't they 10-point saga; had defied the odds to lead at Brighton 1-0; one of the in-form teams in the land.

Brighton had started decently; but seemed to fade along with their opponent's malaise as the game went by; until Jarrad Branthwaite showed the strikers how to finish with a well-taken shot in the 73rd minute. Things went even better for the Toffees when Billy Gilmour was sent off in the 81st minute for a rash studs-up challenge on Amadou Onana.

Lo & behold; when the scorer's board went up to show a ghastly nine minutes of stoppage time to be added; all Everton fans around the world could be heard groaning in collective despair; and the omens proved true; as captain Lewis Dunk rose to head home superbly from Pascal Gross' cross; to deny the Toffees what would have been a vital three points.
