Already a leading contender for Goal of the Season with a stunning overhead kick against the same opponents earlier in the season; Garnacho's two mazy runs drew ill-advised fouls from Everton defenders stricken with fear; as both captain James Tarkowski & Ben Godfrey fouled him inside the box.
Everton have now won only one of their last 32 visits to Old Trafford in all competitions; a stunning Bryan Oviedo effort back during the heady Roberto Martinez era. It was not to be repeated today though; although like a familiar story this season; it was a tale of chances not taken from Sean Dyche's goal-shy side.
Only 121 seconds had elapsed when Everton created the first chance; with Amadou Onana somehow contriving to use his thigh after a typically-incisive cross from Dwight McNeil on the left-wing. Chances continued to come & go; with McNeil himself flashing a volley just wide; then having a decent shot blocked by Raphael Varane right on the stroke of half-time.
For United; it was not an overall vintage performance; but after back-to-back defeats in the league; they will be happy to have kept a clean sheet & a useful victory; as they continue their increasingly-forlorn quest to get back into the top four.
